Just like the evolution of man, sports are constantly changing as well. The game of baseball is no exception to this. While change can be a very good thing, their is a dark side to the change that has occured in baseball. Not only has the way the game is being played changed, but the players themselves are changing. They are growing in size and it is due to their use of illegal performance enhancing drugs.
The use of performance enhancing drugs in baseball, partiuclarly HGH and Anabolic Steroids has run wild over the past ten years. As fans flooded the gates of ballparks to watch games and see home runs fly out the use of these drugs became wide spread. Owners were happy with their new revenue and players were rewarded with bigger an dbigger contracts. All the while, baseball ignored the obvious problem that was going on. Now light has been shed on the subject and players are beginning to come clean about drug use. The damage has already been done though. Records and statistics are now in question, and player’s legacies and reputations are forever damaged.
“The Steroid Era” is upon us and baseball is trying to do all it can to level the playing field once again. Today, stricter testing policies and punishments are being enforced to try to crack down on this problem and hopefully one day rid it from the game of baseball.
This blog will contain general information about steroid and HGH use in baseball, some testing policies, and noteable users. The following pictures are just a few examples of the drastic transformation that players have gone through after steroid use. The pictures on the left are “after” and the right is “before”.
